Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit” outshines in the first part of Creative Arts Emmys
The first event of Creative Arts Emmys 2021 took place on Saturday. Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit” along with “The Mandalorian” and “Wandavision” stood out among the big winners of the event.
The Television Academy event befell first among the three Creative Arts ceremonies of 2021. Given the increasing Covid-19 cases, this year’s event took place outdoors in a camp in L.A Live complex. The attendees for this year’s ceremony were much less than the previous years. However, those who attended went through an ordeal of paperwork and screenings to show that they aren’t potential carriers of coronavirus.
“The Queen’s Gambit” bags seven awards
Netflix’s beloved limited series “The Queen’s Gambit” took home seven awards in Saturday’s ceremony. The show won awards in the following categories:
- Period Costumes
- Period Makeup and/or Character Makeup (Non-Prosthetic)
- Production Design
- Single-Camera Picture Editing
- Sound Editing for a Limited Series
- Sound Mixing for a Limited Series
- Cinematography
Other big winners
Apart from “the Queen’s Gambit”, other big winners were Disney plus’s “The Mandalorian”, “Saturday Night Lives”, and “Wandavision”. While “The Mandalorian” wins the categories of Cinematography, Prosthetic Makeup, and Sound Mixing. “Saturday Night Live” wins in the categories of Hairstyling, Makeup, and Production Design. Further, awards of the categories Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes and Production Design were won by “wandavision.”
20th Anniversary of 11/9 attacks
Creative Arts Emmy Award’s first event held on Saturday concurred with the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The award winner for ‘Saturday Night Live’ Keith Raywood recalls returning to the show after the historic attacks. He stated that Twenty years and two weeks ago we did our first show back.
In addition to him, The Mandalorian’s Ming-Na Wen also addressed her fellow creatives in the event. She stated that “All of you here tonight are proof that creativity prevails in the hardest times”.
