Tyler Rake is extracted from the clutches of death
Tyler Rake lives! During Netflix’s Tudum fan event, Chris Hemsworth himself made an appearance to unveil the second part of his movie, Extraction.
Extraction made history when it got released in 2020, as it became the most watched Netflix Original film. The sequel has Sam Hargrave returning as the director, and Joe Russo as writer. Joe is also the producer with brother Anthony.
The story and reception
Hemsworth stars as Tyler Rake, a mercenary with deep physical and emotional scars. The first film shows Tyler being sent to India to rescue Ovi (Rudhraksh Jaiswal), the son of an imprisoned crime lord. But ensuring a safe rescue in an underworld full of weapons dealers and drug traffickers, and it soon became a life or death situation. Towards the end, Rake gets shot in the neck and fell into the river. He was believed to be dead but the final scene showed otherwise.
The sequel was announced in May 2020, just two weeks after the first film’s release. Due to the massive reception it had, and due to the cliffhanger ending, it was only natural.
Hargrave spoke about his film during a chat with EW on December. He said that the reception was heartfelt and overwhelmingly positive on his very first directing job, and that it was a dream come true. Hargrave was Chris Evans’ former stunt double as Captain America and the second unit director on Avengers: Endgame.
He said that as a director, what you hope for is for people to not hate your movie. But he’s still in disbelief when people say they’ve watched the movie multiple times. As a director, there’s nothing more pleasing.
The release date for Extraction 2 is still undisclosed, but we can expect it sometime in 2022.
