Gods. Kings. Fire. Blood.
HBO has released the first teaser of their Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon. It was revealed at the end of WarnerMedia’s HBO Max European launch event. It also featured the voiceover of Doctor Who alum Matt Smith, who plays Prince Daemon Targaryen.
The Story
“Gods. Kings. Fire. Blood,” Daemon says over the ominous footage. He then adds, “Dreams didn’t make us king…dragons did.”
The series is adapted from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, and is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The first volume of the novel was released in 2018, and season 1 will cover the events from that volume. The plot will focus on the House of Targaryen, and will cover the events that led up to the Targaryen civil war, which spelt the end of the clan. The civil war came to be known as the ‘Dance of the Dragons.’
The series was one of the many that was affected due to the pandemic, but unlike most, they were able to resume after a hiatus of two days.
The cast
Aside from Smith, the cast includes Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower. Savannah Steyn, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan and Theo Nate are also part of the series in undisclosed roles. Recently, seven new actors were also added to this list. They include: Ryan Corr, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Graham McTavish, Matthew Needham, Bill Paterson, and Gavin Spokes.
Despite the lukewarm reception to the final season of Game of Thrones, fans are still excited for House Of The Dragon and hopes that HBO does justice to the series.
The first season will consist of ten episodes and will come out sometime in 2022. Check out the teaser below:
