It’s been a wonderful ride, but all good things must come to an end
Without a doubt, Kaguya-sama: Love is War, is one of the most entertaining and funny rom-com animes out there. The slice-of-life story won over the hearts of countless otakus when it debuted in 2019. The second season premiered in 2020, and was more well-received than the first one. But if the latest bit of information is to be believed, it looks like the story is close to over.
The news was leaked online by MangaMoguraRE. The manga’s writer Aka Akasaka is most likely to start work on the final arc in October, right after he’s done with the current arc he’s working on.
About the story
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War debuted in Shueisha in May 2015, before it shifted to another magazine in 2016. There are currently 23 volumes, with a sale of at least 15 million copies. The manga reached a wider audience after it got its anime adaptation thanks to A-1 pictures. It even received a live-action adaptation in 2020.
The story takes place at Shuchiin Academy, where elite students from elite families flock to, so that their futures also become elite. The two people that all these elite kids look up to are the student council leaders, Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya. The two also look up to each other, so much so that they fall in love with the other. But here’s where the fun part begins, both of them have egos so big they want the other one to confess first. Things soon start get troublesome as the two get caught in a war of who confesses, and loses first.
So far, the studio hasn’t made an announcement about the third season. If the book is truly coming to an end, they could make an extended third season and wind up the story there as well.
The news is sad, but it’s good for the author to end it when people still love the story. What do you think?
