Obi-Wan Kenobi “Will Not Disappoint” While Picking up his Emmy Award

McGregor just won his first Emmy for Halston

Ewan McGregor says his upcoming Star Wars spin-off, Obi-Wan Kenobi “will not disappoint” when he accepted his first Primetime Emmy award on Sunday. McGregor won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in Halston.

McGregor teased his upcoming series from the George Lucas-directed trilogy. He will be reuniting with his former co-star Hayden Christenson, who will reprise his role of Darth Vader. The lightsaber-swinging rematch will premier in 2022 on Disney+.

McGregor spoke about the show backstage, saying they had finished shooting, and that it was a lot of fun. He enjoyed working with the show’s director/ executive producer Deborah Chow, and thinks the show will not disappoint. He spoke about new technology being implemented, and that it was different from what they did in the original three films.

Obi-Wan, a Jedi Knight and later Jedi Master is probably one of McGregor’s most known roles. McGregor played him in the three prequels, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. The new series will see McGregor return to the role after almost 17 years.

Chow, who had directed The Mandalorian, says the story takes place a decade after Revenge of the Sith. The prequel ends with Obi-Wan defeating his former friend and padawan in a fierce battle in Mustafar, and goes into exile on Tatooine to protect Luke Skywalker, Anakin’s son.

During Disney’s Investor Day 2020, McGregor spoke about his role, saying his only remaining task is to keep Luke safe. But what’s most exciting is the show being called “Rematch of the Century” since Obi-Wan and Darth Vader is facing off again.

McGregor also thinks that the most beautiful thing about the show is reuniting him with Hayden.
