Saturday Night Live Kicks Off Season 47 with Owen Wilson and Kacey Musgraves

Saturday Night Live is back!

TV’s one of the best variety sketch shows is here with a new season. Saturday Night Live is here with its 47th season on NBC. One of the firsts celebrity guests was Owen Wilson with musical guest Kacey Musgraves. This is the first time Owen Wilson has hosted Saturday Night Live.

It’s been quite some time since the hiatus, the show is back with a live studio audience. Days before the new season was set to come, Beck Bennett left the show after eight years. Lauren Holt also left the show. New cast additions on the show Aristotle Athari, Sarah Sherman, and James Austin Johnson have joined the new season.

Highlights of the episode

James Austin Johnson has one of the best impressions of Donald Trump and he did the impression of Joe Biden in the debut episode. He debuted as Joe Biden during the cold opening of the sketch. Owen Wilson was not seen in the opening of the episode. Longtime cast members Cecily Strong as Sen. Krysten Sinema and Aidy Bryant as Sen. Joe Manchin joined in the cold opening. Pete Davidson also came in the end as Andrew Cuomo. The episode took the dig at the Met Gala’s moment “Tax the rich”.

The overall episode took quite a dig at the current politics of the United States of America. Jhonson played the president after his co-star Moffat who played the president last season. Other actors who have played the president include Jim Carrey, Woody Harrelson, Jason Sudeikis, John Mulaney, and Kevin Nealson.

Musical guest Kacey Musgraves promoted her new album Star-crossed, which is her exploration after her divorce.

Further, this season is also set to have various guests such as Kim Kardashian, Rami Malek, and Jason Sudeikis. Musical guests will include Halsey, Young Thug, and Brandi Carlie respectively.
