Steve Carell to Star as Psychotherapist in FX Limited Series, ‘The Patient’

The psychological thriller will be written by Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg

Steve Carell is all set to star in the FX limited series, The Patient. The series was created by The Americans creator duo Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg.

Ten half hour episodes were ordered by FX, and will be about a psychotherapist who was given a task by his patient.

The story follows a psychotherapist named Alexander Strauss (Carell) who is held prisoner by his patient. The patient is a serial killer who wants Strauss to cure him off his homicidal urges. This proves to be a tough job for Strauss as he he has to unwind the mind of a damaged man, while exploring his own internal issues, all the while in captivity. The series is co-written by Weisberg and Fields, and executive produced by Caroline Moore, Victor Hsu, and Carell himself.

Eric Schrier, president of FX Entertainment, is excited to reunite with Weisberg and Fields. He said that everyone at the studio is excited to bring them back after six amazing seasons of The Americans. The Patient will put on the creative instincts and mystery, along with nuanced characters on display. Carell, while known most for his humorous roles, is remarkable in dramatic roles as well.

Carell is best known for his role in the NBC comedy, The Office. He then went on to get noticeable roles in the Despicable Me franchise, Anchorman, and the 40-Year-Old Virgin.

The Patient will be Carell’s next television role after Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, and Netflix’s space comedy Space Force. His next movie will be Minions: The Rise of Gru, which will be released next summer.
