Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” created record in the Primetime Emmy Awards 2021. Although this is not a record they were hoping to make.

The show lost the most number of nominations at this year ceremony. It had registered third highest number of nominations only to be awarded none.

The Primetime Emmy Award 2021 was held on 19th September, Sunday. The show was nominated for awards in 21 category in this 73rd Primetime Emmy Award. But unfortunately they ended up receiving none. Earlier in 2012 AMC’ “Mad Men” made a record of losing highest number of awards by losing 17 nomination. The record is broken by Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” this year. Earlier before “Mad Men,” “Northern Exposure” and “The Larry Sanders Show” was on the top of this record. They lost 16 nominations in a year.

The show was nominated is major categories like for Outstanding Drama Series and show’s lead Elisabeth Moss was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress. Both of the awards were won by Netflix’s “The Crown” and it’s lead actress Olivia Colman. The Handmaid’s Tale was mainly defeated in nomination tally by only three shows. “The Crown” received 24 nomination same as “The Mandalorian”. While Wanda Vision got 23 nomination.

The show’s past Emmy record has been pretty good. It won Best Drama Series award in 2017 Primetime Emmy. Elisabeth Moss won Best Lead Actress for the show in the same year. It was also nominated in the Best Drama Series category in both 2018 and 2020.

Season 5 of The Handmaid’s Tale

In a statement the creators confirmed that they are bringing season five of the show. Jordan Helman, head of scripted content for Hulu Original stated that it is really exciting for the show. The show is gaining viewers every year unlike anything they have ever seen, he added. Season 5 is in progress but release date is yet to be known.
